Finderbridge Tourism, started by Assam native Himangshu Baruah in 2017, is putting Northeast on the global map, with its clientele mostly from aboard

Tourism is all about the breathtaking views, having fun, and then jumping back to your regular life. But what about the waste you leave behind? Who takes care of that? Finderbridge Tourism, a Guwahati-based travel startup, is aiming at promoting “responsible tourism”; where fun and responsibility towards the environment go hand-in-hand.

Founded by Himangshu Baruah (24) and three others in 2017, Finderbridge Tourism is putting Northeast on the global map, with its clientele mostly from aboard.

In July, the two-year-old startup was nominated as the ‘Best Travel Startup Of the Year’ at the 9th Annual Entrepreneur India Awards, 2019’ which is known to be the biggest startup and company award show organised by Entrepreneur India – a part of Entrepreneur Media, USA.

The startup managed to be shortlisted among the top five nominations for the award among 2,000 others.

Speaking with EastMojo, the founder of Finderbridge, Himangshu Baruah, said, “It is one of our greatest achievements so far and getting nominated (by clearing two rounds of selection ) within two years had been our greatest milestone. We hope it’s a proud moment for the entire startup culture of Northeast India.”

The 24-year-old engineer aims to promote the cultures, tribes, ethnic commodities and destinations of Northeast and mainly highlight the unexplored places of the region with his destination management organisation.

The unique idea of his venture of “responsible tourism” is the need of the hour, when climate change is not a thing of the future, but a disaster that is happening right now.

In five years, Baruah said through his startup, he wants to “rebuild Northeast by discovering unexplored places”. He also plans to pan out a community-based model for his venture in the future, where tourism fills the hearts of the travellers and at the same time provides livelihood to the locals.
