Community Homestay Network
Community Homestay Network (CHN) is a social enterprise that supports a network of community homestays in Nepal. We connect travelers with Communities across Nepal, providing a unique opportunity to stay with Nepali families and immerse in real Nepali life. At the same time, local communities get the opportunity to share their culture and landscapes with the world while gaining access to a sustainable source of income through tourism. The authentic experiences we offer travelers are created with the goal of having a positive impact on Nepali communities, women and families, as well as on the travelers themselves.
Meet Your Hosts
Barauli is home to the indigenous Tharu people. By day, the villagers work on their artisanal products & tend to their crops while the kids play near the jungle.
Impact on Community
Though a stone’s throws away from the Chitwan National Park, Barauli never got much attention as a travel destination and saw little to no travelers before. With Community Homestay’s involvement, Barauli has seen more and more travelers each year. Tourism has now become a viable source of income. Although everyone in the community is involved in many different ways, the homestays have provided an opportunity for the local women to assume greater responsibilities in the community as they rise through the ranks of the community. As a response to the pandemic, CHN initiated the Koseli Project in 2020 to help tourism-dependent communities to sell local products in urban markets.
