VCD NEPAL

VCD Nepal is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-religious organization. It was founded in 2007 and is continued to be run by a group of Nepali individuals whose goal in starting the organization was to help Nepali communities wanting and needing help. With little funding but a big dream, VCD was started. Unlike many other volunteer organizations, VCD is not funded or backed by large international corporate organizations.

Our main goal is to help local communities in Nepal. As a result, VCD Nepal is able to connect volunteers directly to communities.

We are able to ensure the program fees goes directly towards projects needed such as community libraries, orphanages and schools, and environmental education. VCD is one of the most affordable volunteer organizations in South Asia with money going directly to projects.

COMMUNITY TEACHING

This project is based in Chitwan in Torikhet village. Torikhet village, is approximately 153 KM south west of Kathmandu city; which takes around 4 hours by bus. It is very famous for its national park which boasts some of the world’s most varied and unique wildlife, explaining its world heritage status. It is also close to Narayanghat city (only 30 mins by bike) where volunteers can go to local restaurants and bars to socialize. The birth place of BUDDHA, Lumbini is only two hours drive away.

During this program, volunteers will be working at Torikhet Community library and village resource center. The center was founded in 2013 by VCD Nepal. The center aims to provide educational opportunities and resources to local villagers and an enthusiastic volunteer can help with this is many ways.

CULTURAL IMMERSION

Home stays and cultural exchange programs is a fantastic way to get more out of a trip to Nepal and can be arranged in most areas of Nepal with our 150 Host families. Participants will be placed with a Nepali family in a small rural village or family within the city for the duration of their stay. This provides the volunteers with an excellent opportunity to immerse themselves in the depth of all aspects of Nepali culture, lifestyle, language, food and people. Volunteers should remember that this is a cultural exchange and that an effort to offer some knowledge of their own home culture and customs to the family with whom they stay is appreciated.

Requirement
No specific requirement needed for this program. Other than that a genuine desire to learn about different culture, language and people at the same time wiling to share about their home culture. For volunteers coming to Nepal, this is an opportunity to gain experience an ordinary tourist would not be able to experience.

ORGANIC FARMING

The VCD Nepal organic farming program works with various families and local communities around Kathmandu valley, Chitwan, Pokhara, Dolakha and other rural part of the country to help locals move away from the hand to mouth existence of subsistence farming.

In this program, international volunteer will be working in the organic farm together with local families. They will be sharing modern cultivation method for high and quality production of agricultural products like grains, fruits, vegetables etc.

Due to lack of proper knowledge and awareness about farming local communities are using traditional method with high consumption of chemical fertilizers and other harmful agents for high production which destroy environment and product quality. We believe that by recruiting volunteers in the organic farm we will be able to help them to discover sustainable way to produce organic food without using chemical fertilizers and find the best farmers marketplace to sell their quality products.

Organic Farming program can be physical tough and the weather is usually hot and humid so does require a good level of fitness. But there is nothing quite like the satisfaction volunteer will feel just knowing that you are helping to grow organic food and keep our communities on the way to sustainability.

Requirement
No specific requirement needed for this placement but volunteer with organic farming knowledge would be highly appreciated.
